It is Time to Go Skiing

December 14 thru 16, 2007

5 BIG MOUNTAINS TRIP Winter Park, Mary Jane, Vasquez Ridge, Vasquez Cirque, and Parsenn Bowl

The Cheyenne Ski Club’s first and probably the best area to go to in December is the Incredible, Amazing, Huge snow, 5 Big Mountains commonly referred to as Winter Park and Mary Jane Ski Area. The Dates this year are December 14-16, and should not affect your Christmas shopping. I actually think you deserve a break from Christmas shopping and have a great weekend skiing.

Pack your gear and board the bus Friday evening with new and old faces for a relaxing three-hour drive to your fun-filled weekend. We will depart at 5:00 5:30 pm from the parking lot across from the Game and Fish Department (Flashearth link). We will have the standard healthy choice snacks and drinks and we will stop for dinner.

At our destination, one lift ticket allows you to ski a Dreamland of different terrain from wonderful groomed slopes, silky smooth blues, incredible powder nestled in trees and huge bumps on 5 Big Mountains. If you want to be lost, this is your trip. On the Winter Park side, you will find magnificent sweeping views of the Continental Divide and a variety of terrain to suit every skier and boarder. The Boarder Park is second to none and the music is loud and very motivating for everybody. NASTAR is set up for the racing enthusiasts and will be watched by everybody from one of the hill’s two excellent restaurants.

Behind Winter Park are two more mountains -- Vasquez Ridge and Vasquez Cirque, which will certainly test your ability how to read a trail map. Both of these mountains have a combination of blues, blacks, powder, and nice bumps. Mary Jane is a little steeper terrain but it still has great blues and blacks and several big bump runs. If you want to eat at Mary Jane you will find all your restaurants at the bottom of the hill, along with great shopping. Behind Mary Jane you will find yourself in Parsenn Bowl which is wide open incredible slopes and view, but beware, it could be a little windy.

Winter Park and Mary Jane ski areas have probably the best ski and snowboard instructors in the business. Start the year off right with a quick tune up lesson.

Accommodations this year will be at the Winter Park Mountain Lodge which is located across the highway from the Vintage where we stayed last year. The hotel has free shuttles to the area and to and from downtown. There is an on-site restaurant serving breakfast and dinner, with the only Microbrewery in Winter Park. Plus it has an incredible view of Winter Park Ski Area. Nothing will feel nicer than jumping into one of the two ten-person hot tubs or the indoor swimming pool after a big day on the slopes.

I have reserved 15 rooms for this weekend at following rates:

Cost per single occupancy (per-person cost + room cost) = $222

Cost per double occupancy (per-person cost + room cost) = $142

Cost per triple occupancy (per-person cost + room cost) = $107

Cost per quad occupancy (per-person cost + room cost) = $97

I highly encourage interested members to think about the Four Pass by November 10, 2007.  See www.passwagon.com for sales locations.

There are also other activities in the area that will keep the non-skier or boarder happy all day long: snowmobiling, ice skating, shopping, sleigh rides and dog sledding just to name a few.
