The Far West Racing Association Silent Auction

Barbara Bryant, Secretary of FWRA and VP of Membership for FWSA (membership@fwsa.org) is

holding an online auction to sell several items left from their Silent Auction held April 10th

at the championships at Mammoth.  We didn't want these items to go to waste,

so this is our attempt to reach those who didn't make it to Mammoth,

but still may want a good deal.

A portion of the funds will go to the Far West Ski Association's Athletic Scholarship Fund.

We donate each year to the fund for J1-J3 racers (J stands for junior).

Last year FWSA had thirteen junior racers we donated to, so this year we will hopefully

have more money to use.  We also use a portion of the funds to run the championships.

The description of items is below, along with their value and a minimum bid. The minimum bids

are guidelines. All bids will be accepted. You could score a great deal.

Deadline for bids is May 6.

The process is:

1) Send Barbara your bid at membership@fwsa.org.  See attached form for latest bids.

2) Winning bids will be announced May 6.

3) The winner sends a check made out to FWRA 12741 Peregrine Dr. Truckee, CA 96161.

Payment must be by check.

4) Barbara will send to the winning bidder the documentation for the item.

Contact Barbara if you have questions.

Please email to all of your friends, club members, racers, and skiers!  You can

get some great bargains!

LET'S GO TO PALM SPRINGS!

The Cheyenne Ski Club is a proud member of the Intermountain Ski Council, and many of us had loads of fun at the council ski trip to Steamboat and Sun Valley the last couple of years.
When our club became a member of the council, we also became a member
of the larger entity, the Far West Ski Association.

The Far West Ski Association has over 50,000 skiers and 12 councils in its membership, and includes clubs from San Diego in the southwest to Phoenix, and from Rapid City in the east to San Francisco, and lots of territory in between.  The association helps plan trips to all the major ski resorts in the western United States as well as Europe and New Zealand.
Members of the the Far West Ski Association are also active in various
charity organizations and activities.

Once a year the Far West Ski Association brings together interested ski club members from all the member clubs to discuss trends in the ski industry, meet with ski resort representatives of all the major resorts, and exchange ideas with other ski
club leaders throughout the far west.  The meeting this year
is being held at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort in Palm Springs,
California, from June 10-13, 2010.

The Cheyenne Ski Club is looking for motivated Cheyenne Ski Club members who
wish to become more involved in planning ski club activities, and are also
interested in representing our club at the Reno convention.  This is a great
opportunity for ski club enthusiast to become more involved in planning and
organizing council trips, or club trips, in the future.

If you would like to learn more, and think you may be interested in attending the conference in Palm Springs, contact Linda Scott at louandlt@hotmail.com as soon as possible.  Our board will review all requests and make their selection for delegates from the Cheyenne Ski Club.

Cheyenne Ski Club's goal has always been to provide you an excellent trip at a reasonable cost.  We feel we've done pretty well. But it becomes clear that with the size of our club, it's tough to put together something like a week-long trip or an air travel trip. To solve this problem, we've joined the newly-formed Intermountain Ski Council, a group of ski clubs in Idaho, Utah, Colorado and Wyoming.  View their mission statement. The Council, in turn, is one of several councils making up the National Ski Council Federation.   There are over 250,000 people in the individual clubs across the nation that are represented by this group.

With a larger size, it's feasible to have larger trips, longer trips, better rates for lodging, and better discounts on lift tickets for Council activities.  What this means to us in Cheyenne is that more trips are available to us as members of the Council.  For instance, you can go on this year's Council trip to Steamboat Springs
on February 26 - March 1, 2009.  Lift ticket and lodging rates are shown on their trip flyer.  The prices can't be beat!

As part of this affiliation, we also become part of the
Far West Ski Association. This even larger group has an extensive summer and winter travel calendar. This year's slate includes Greece, Montana, and Austria (with options for Munich and Prague).

Keep an eye on these opportunities for next season as the Council matures!

Another option for skiing different venues that our club can't offer due to distance or time constraints is a group called
Singles Travel International. Geared for single and solo travelers, they provide a new approach to ski trips.  Since participants live in all parts of the country, your job is to get to the destiantion on your own. After that, they take over, providing lodging (with roommate matching as to sex and age group), ground transportation, lift tickets, most meals, and loads of parties to get acquainted.  Most trips are week-long.  For a sense of their prices, how about 7 nights' lodging, 4 days tix at Jackson, parties, ground transportation, travel insurance, happy hours, and all taxes and gratuities for $1060?  Details are here

We've been lucky to have had the unstinting support of two fine credit unions for the last several years.  Please consider them for any of your financial needs - checking, savings, mortgages and other loans, financial services and more.  As a member of the Cheyenne Ski Club, you automatically meet their membership requirements.
